The Environmental Impact of the Cement Industry #infographic

Clinker is the main constituent of cement, accounting for around 4 percent of total global CO2 emissions in 2015, and is the largest non-combustion source of CO2 from industrial production.

It would be the third largest CO2 emitter worldwide if the cement industry were a country.

Cement-related CO2 fuel combustion emissions are also around 4 percent of global CO2 emissions, so cement production accounts for about 8 percent of global CO2 emissions.

Sand and gravel (aggregates) are critical resources important to economic development, but extraction rates surpass natural sand replenishment rates and there is little or no related control in many regions of the world.
