This week, Texas was struck by a deadly winter storm that brought record snowfalls and freezing temperatures that hit its energy grid, leaving millions of people in the dark shivering. Around 60 percent of homes in the state rely on heating electricity and severe weather conditions contributed to a rise in demand that crippled the power grid, resulting in the loss of power on February 16 to 4.3 million people.
Late on Tuesday night, three million people were already in the dark as the temperatures turned into rain and freezing rain. With criticism levelled at multiple sources of fuel, the blame game is now well and truly underway.
