The Windows operating system of Microsoft continues to dominate the computing world, gaining an overwhelming worldwide market share relative to rivals. Apple's macOS, Microsoft's long-time closest rival, has steadily gained a foothold in the global market, but has yet to really challenge Windows in any significant capacity. Now, new data reveals that Apple's macOS has been overtaken by a third rival and shows signs of a greater global drive to gain a decent chunk of the desktop computer market.
New IDC data reveals that Google's Chrome OS officially overtook Apple's macOS market share in the desktop operating system with almost 11% of the global share compared to Apple's 7.5%.
