The Indian vaccination programme, aimed at immunising 300 million people by the summer, started this week. The drive uses a locally developed version of the University of Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine and a local product, Covaxin. Just 8 percent of the country's population said it was doubtful they would support the vaccine, according to a survey by YouGov India, but that is only half the tale.
A whopping 41 percent of urban Indians said in a separate query that they would like to wait a few months before getting the shot to ensure that it was safe, considering the urgency to intervene in the pandemic that is still spreading worldwide.
