This data is based on U.S. metropolitan area statistics for 2020. The Housing and Urban Planning Agency. The median sales price for new homes in the U.S. soared to a record high of $348,200 at the beginning of 2020. The states in both the south and the west are spending the most in new home construction, based on the results.
Both of these states surpassed the national home construction rate in Idaho and Utah (41.9 units per 10,000 residents) by more than 100 percent. Meanwhile, as these states have seen their populations either decrease or remain stagnant, the states in the Northeast have constructed the fewest new homes per capita.
