The Largest Racial Disparities in Marijuana Possession Arrests Across the U.S. #infographic

Where in the United States are black individuals more likely than white individuals to be prosecuted for possession of marijuana? We found the 50 counties where racial inequalities are the highest when it comes to marijuana arrests using data from a study conducted by the ACLU. One county in Georgia, with black people 97.2 times more likely to be arrested for possession of marijuana, was found to have an extreme racial difference in their arrest rates.

On average, black people are 3.6 times more likely to be convicted on drug charges in the 50 states. As racial discrimination among law enforcement officers has become an increasingly obvious issue, this racial gap has continued to expand over the years. Where in the U.S. has this topic evolved the most? Between 2010 and 2018, we mapped out the 20 counties that had the biggest changes in racial disparities in marijuana possession arrests.
