With additions to proven reserves, production outpacing consumption and rising demand for liquefied natural gas and coal-to-gas switching in the power sector, protection of global gas supplies continues to trend upward.
Natural gas accounted for 24.2% of the world's primary energy consumption in 2019. In the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), natural gas is the dominant fuel, while oil remains dominant in Africa, Europe and the Americas.
Asia Pacific is the largest consuming area of gas resources on the earth and actually derives almost half of its primary energy from coal. The largest per capita users of natural gas are oil and gas producing nations.
