Male Baldness: The Norwood Scale
Male pattern baldness, beginning with a common "M" shape, frequently occurs along the hairline. Over time, once you have a bald patch, the mid-crown hair gets shorter and finer. The Norwood Scale is used by physicians to diagnose hair loss stages in men; here's one example:

Female Baldness: The Size of Ludwig
