So do coughs, colds and stomach bugs as cold weather arrives.
The causes are not always clear, but diseases such as cold and flu occur more often during the winter months. One misconception is that you will get sick from cold weather, but that's not true. Being cold does not cause disease on its own, but when it is colder outside, kids prefer to spend more time together indoors, spreading germs and infections quickly.
"Playing together inside means kids are in closer proximity to each other, sharing the air that could be contaminated with more germs, infections and viruses," explains Michael Lee, M.D., Children's HealthSM paediatrician and UT Southwestern Associate Professor.
