When Countries Granted Women The Right To Vote #Infographic

When its governor, Lord Glasgow, signed the Electoral Act into law on September 19, 1893, New Zealand became the first self-governing nation in the world to give women the right to vote in parliamentary elections. A further 128 countries granted women the right to vote between that year and 1960, including all but six European countries. Switzerland in 1960 and Portugal in 1976 are some of the European governments which permitted universal suffrage after 1960.
