The hydrogen economy refers to a potential future energy supply system using hydrogen ( H2). John Bockris first coined the word during a talk at the General Motors (GM) Technical Center in 1970. Advocates of this new scheme support hydrogen as a possible source of fuel. Free hydrogen, like other energy sources, does not exist naturally in the quantity of usage, but can be produced by different methods. As such, hydrogen is an energy carrier, not a primary source of energy. The viability of a hydrogen economy depends on topics such as the use of fossil fuels , renewable energy generation, and the procurement of energy.
