In the U.S., 19 million women are estimated to live in what are known as "contraceptive deserts," identified as places where women eligible for publicly supported birth control do not have fair access to the full spectrum of available methods. This suggests that to receive the type of birth control that works best for them, these women may have to drive more than an hour each way. They will have to take time off to travel from work or school and may incur extra transportation expenses to get there.
