Forbes puts together the Forbes 400 each October, which is the definitive ranking of the 400 richest Americans. The 2019 Billionaires list is worth a whopping $2.96 trillion together! However, the net worth of these billionaires is not held year-round at a constant amount. Owing to changes in the stock market, selling or buying shares, investing in other companies and making charitable donations, their net worth is constantly increasing and decreasing. Also shifts in their personal lives can affect their net worth: when Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie split in 2019, for example, she earned 25 per cent of Amazon's stock, becoming $38 billion richer.
