Further port detentions — and travel diversions to encourage changes in crew and avoid detentions — reducing successful ship capacity. Lower capacity curtails the ability of shippers to move freight across the globe.
It would also increase spot prices, a plus for ship owners who aren't detained or diverted. For shipowners, the "freshness" of crew contracts will become a competitive advantage and a metric vetted by charterers.
