As Google's proposed $2.1 billion acquisition of Fitbit faces antitrust headwinds over search giant concerns gaining access to a large array of valuable health and activity data, the firm itself has consistently emphasized that the deal is about apps rather than data. "We will help accelerate progress in wearables and create products that support many more people around the world by working closely with Fitbit's team of experts and bringing together the best AI, software and hardware," Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Products & Services, wrote in last year's official announcement of the agreement.
