Let's be real — not everybody has the money for a Tesla luxury or high end solar panels. Although a cold shower of 3 minutes per day could save water and energy over time, it's just not practical for everybody. And though airplane travel is another major contributor to greenhouse gas, sometimes it's impossible to avoid (you can't rollerblade from New York to Houston). Instead, you can drive, but that is just burning fossil fuels and helping to pollute the air.
In fact, cutting plastic consumption on a daily basis is a great place to start. Plastic pollution not only affects the oceans and other water bodies but also accelerates climate change. As WWF-Australia 's Kerri Major states, "At every step of its life cycle, plastic produces greenhouse gas emissions that lead to the warming of our planet." According to the Center for International Environmental Law, the 2019 global climate effect of plastic production was the equivalent of 189 coal-fired power plants.
