Different companies have different criteria but the overall key features of CMMS remain in use. That isn't surprising when you think about how these devices interconnect.
If you want to execute a proactive maintenance plan, you need the ability to schedule PMs and initiate Work Orders, you need the ability to assign specific technicians to specific equipment, and you need dashboards and reports to track ongoing work. If one of those features is missing then the whole thing is going to fall apart.
This is why all core features are used proportionally the same and why the majority of CMMS on the market implemented them in one form or another. How does maintenance work translate into a CMMS app? Well, the most direct comparison would be that the maintenance work of a technician is being tracked on a given task at a CMMS.
Nearly all maintenance activities can be classified as either word instructions, PMs or work requests. So, the features we're going to mention in this section are those that help you manage all of those maintenance tasks.
