Mobile messaging apps like WhatsApp are now, without a doubt, deeply woven into contemporary workplace cloth. From financial services and healthcare to law enforcement and educational institutions, this instant messaging app has infiltrated many communications-driven sectors of our society, far away from the era when people were using them only for their personal messaging needs.
Nonetheless, with the the ramifications of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the 2018 Data Protection Act and the upcoming California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in 2020, using a single WhatsApp account for both personal and work requirements–as most workers do–is quickly becoming a ban for businesses that need to capture and document WhatsApp for enforcement.
As such, there is growing interest in how workers can continue to use this app when interacting with their colleagues and customers without compromising both their privacy and productivity.
