Hundreds of people have now died from the novel coronavirus which first appeared in December 2019 in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Tens of thousands of cases in China have been confirmed, and experts say they expect the numbers to continue to rise.

Although the vast majority of cases have been in China, global health officials are worried about the virus, which can cause pneumonia. Dozens of cases were confirmed in more than 20 countries, and the Philippines reported the first death outside of China.
