If you've never heard of poké or seen it, you're in for a gourmet treat. This new, good fish dish comes from Hawaii, where it has been popular for decades (you can even find it at local gas stations and surf shops). Since the beginning of 2017 we have seen a 76 per cent increase in poké meal deliveries. Because of this big boost, ZeroCater introduced even more poker partners, including Island Grinds Catering, Bamboo Asia, Pokeworks, and Hokey Poke.
Now that this dish is gaining popularity on the mainland, we're here to help you understand what poké is, what it's usually served with and how to order it. If you're in sushi, you'll find common flavours, like raw tuna or salmon, in traditional poké.
If raw fish is not your thing, you can consider variants made from tofu or any other cooked proteins. While fish without any other ingredients in a cup are the easiest form of poké, continental shops get inventive with burritos, rice bowls, salads and more. Read on for more details on this tasty, balanced Hawaiian soup.
