Once upon a time, when I was in high school, I had a chemistry teacher who told us, "If you can cook, then you can do chemistry." I remember finding this very strange, because I didn't know how to cook and most of my attempts were met with little success. I'm pretty sure in 10th grade I wasn't alone in this way.
Fast into adult life and I can't say that in the kitchen I feel so much more relaxed. Personally, in many ways I still feel like that kid in a chemistry class. Watching the changes happening when I cook in my pots and pans is incredible but my comprehension of what I'm doing is still pretty sophisticated. Much of my kitchen experiments fail as my laboratory experiments do.
