The US e-cigarette market has exploded over the past few years. In fact, e-cigarette revenues are expected to surpass traditional cigarette sales by 2025.
Teens are fastest growing segment, with an 800% increase in adoption between 2011 and 2014. There are now 2.6M middle and high school aged children using e-cigarettes in the US.
What is causing this growth?
Many experts have pinned it down to increased ad spending by e-cigarette companies. In 2014, 7 in 10 were exposed to some type of advertisement. The most common areas of exposure are retail stores, internet sites, and TV commercials.
E-cigarettes are also shrouded in misconceptions that further encourage adoption. For example, many people are led to believe "e-cigarettes don't have nicotine". When, in fact, almost all e-cigarettes contain an addictive liquid nicotine substance.
