Today is International Yoga Day, and awareness raising about the many advantages of practicing yoga is celebrated worldwide. In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the International Yoga Day after the Indian government suggested to dedicate a day to this ancient physical, mental and spiritual exercise.
As the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, June 21 has been declared as the International Yoga Day and is observed in many parts of the world for other important reasons. Yoga is not a religion or an art form. It is derived from the term "Yuji" in Sanskrit, meaning union. Practice includes body, mind and soul harmonization. Yoga integrates exercises for breathing, meditation and poses aimed at promoting relaxation and reduced stress. Regular practice of yoga encourages a feeling of well-being and peace within.
Apart from your self-realization, the primary essence of daily yoga practice is to create your physical, mental, social, spiritual health. Physical yoga includes postures or asanas to maintain the body safe, mental practice involves breathing practice or pranayama and meditation or dhyana to discipline the mind.
