There is a prevalent wisdom that says that certain features can define the stereotypical American consumer. We all have an idea of what the average consumer might look for in a house, car, restaurant, or shopping center based on what the popular culture tells us, as well as years of experience and data.
But as conditions change, so do the tastes of consumers–and according to Deloitte's latest study, the contemporary customer is becoming progressively different from those of previous years. We need to rethink and update our image of the modern consumer to really understand how these changes will affect the marketplace and our investments.
