Parodontitis is the more serious type of gum disease. Your gums start to pull away from your teeth when you reach this stage. Pockets are forming between your gums and your teeth. These fill with, and deepen, germs and pus. You may need gum surgery if this occurs to save your teeth. If nothing is done, the bone around your teeth will be destroyed by the infection. The teeth may begin moving or loosening. You may have to pull your teeth out or drop out.
